RANT #1 All This AI is Killing Me! I Must Confess I Still Believe...
... in CREATIVITY! Hit me baby one more time!
I know every creative and teacher is frustrated at the influx in AI usage, but when you create a website to showcase your writing, you shouldn't have to "Review Generated Posts". What in the world? Is this real? I deleted two generated posts, so it created a third generative post like the problem was that I dislike the posts.
No, AI, I didn't dislike your post. I disliked the very idea that I was unable to create my own post, so you did it for me. The whole point of this site is to show MY writing not some robot who barely knows how to simulate emotions.
On that point... The AIs are starting to simulate emotion... They're not doing great, but it's still freaking me out. I literally watched a video of a man telling the AI controlling a robot to shoot him with a BB gun, and it did after he told it that they were just role playing. It's like it was waiting for the right wording, so it could shoot him. Either the AI understood the concept of revenge and craved it, or it's a mindless being determined to follow orders immediately with no hesitation. Neither option is good!
I do feel like part of the problem is people view creativity as something easy until they get started, so using AI to do the creative thing makes them feel like less of a failure when they weren't able to be creative in the first place. Suddenly, all the people who "have such a great idea for a story/ TV show/ movie" have a way of getting that idea out without doing the hard work. However, most of the time people don't review their AI written stuff, so they don't realize how bad it is.
It's scary to think about AI replacing people's jobs, but it's also scary to think about it replacing human ingenuity. I can't imagine trying to be a teen and be creative in this environment now. I've taught for four years, and the kids who genuinely write well and are creative get accused of using AI constantly. I had a student who would add errors to his work that he was completing on paper sitting next to me because he was worried I'd think he was somehow using AI.
It's not fair...
I wanted robots to clean my kitchen and do my laundry not write my blog posts and tell me I'm wrong about the science in my own novel. (Screw you, Gemini! Black hole science is mostly theoretical, and I do what I want!) AI was supposed to make it easier for people to have more time to be creative not take away the opportunities for creatives. Blegh.
